Inaction of Kerala State Information Commission revealed through RTI

Bangalore: RTI reveals that Kerala State Information Commission has around 10,000 RTI complaints and appeals that are still pending with a low disposal rate of 60% among other states.

From August 2008 to February 2015, the commission has received a total number of 25,000 RTI applications and appeals and RTI reveals that it could only dispose 15,000 out of them.

The Kerala Government has spent more than Rs 14 Crores on the Kerala State Information Commission (KSIC) since its inception in 2008. The staggering figure of Rs. 9000 per RTI enquiry push common people’s thought into dark.

During the period March 2014 to February 2015 the information commission in the state of Kerala had 1 Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and 3 information commissioners (IC). For a fact, this bluntly answers the startling low disposal rate of the commission.

More than what the RTI revealed, it raised a lot of questions. Why such aberrant expenses? Where is the money going? Why the work force is so less in the commission? Hope the Government of Kerala have answer to all these.
