Vision impairment in Children below six years of age is increased by 22.34% in 2016 in Karnataka state says the Government via RTI reply.

Karnataka has a population of 61 million according to census 2011. Similarly hearing impairment and motor delay in infants less than six years of age is increased by 4% and 2% respectively in 2016.

  • Motor delay is a developmental delay when the child does not develop skills in the expected age range. The problems could be related to crawling or walking or the way the child grasps any object like plate, spoon etc.
  • Cognitive delay is a lag in the development of the child compared to its standardized milestones. According to the study, a six-month-old child should be able to understand its names. Each child has their own time of development. However, it is a cognitive delay even if a more-than-a-year-old child cannot understand its name.
Karnataka has the highest cognitive delay cases in 2016 when compared to some of the Southern states.
