Police becomes alert; crime numbers decrease in Yellapur

The number of crimes taking place in Yellapur has seen a decrement, according to the RTI report obtained from Yellapur Police.

2016 saw a decrement in major crimes such as robbery, theft, rapes and crime through violating security. Robbery saw just two cases, theft saw four cases, rape saw one case and crime through violating security saw 40 cases in the taluk.

In the past six years, the highest number of robbery cases was recorded in the year 2012 with 10 cases. The highest number of theft cases was recorded in the year 2013 with 10 cases, rape saw highest in 2015 with three cases while crime through violating security saw the highest number in 2015 with 54 cases.

“We are more alert now. Hence, the big numbers are now decreasing,” said S.H.O (Station House Officer), Yellapur Police Station.

The numbers did not just saw decrease in the crime rate but also saw decrement in the number of accidents. 2016 witnessed 18 deaths and 105 injured during road accidents while the highest number went up to 31 deaths in 2013 and 117 injured in 2012.

According to the S.H.O, they are now implementing stricter rules to make Yellapur taluk free of crime.
